NHK Radio

This week, I intend to take up the topic about NHK Radio, but we will rarely listen to radio as the main media. Moreover, when it comes to "NHK", we hardly do but at shops and on taxis. But as I knew it, I realized that it is not only just news programs.

This character is "Rajiru". It appeared as an official mascot of NHK Radio from this year.
Its motto is "a, radio kiko".

・How is it?
On NHK Radio, there are three radio stations, NHK Radio1, NHK Radio2 and NHK FM. News programs are broadcasted by Radio1. It uses the same a source of TV's sound. In 1931 Radio2 branched off it and Radio2 became in charge of educational program which looked like NHK Education. Being difference from TV, Radio2 broadcasted about stock and foreign language news on Radio2. It is said that R1 is the program of all over Japan for the general public and R2 is city one for the intelligent. NHK FM mainly has music programs and radio drama. It, differently from commercial broadcasting, covered various genre of music. For example, classic, western music, jazz, etc… It has started experimentally since 1957 and in '69, begun for all over Japan. "Kouhaku utagassenn" and "NHK nodojimann", which are still popular programs of NHK TV, were born on NHK Radio. After TV broadcasting started in 1953, Radio gradually disappeared from the principal stage of the media. But before TV, it had played an important role as the main media.
