NHK Education TV

I'll start to write articles about NHK, in particular NHK Education TV this week.I watched this program when I was a child. At first,I thought it was TV program for kids, but it turned out to be wrong...

・How is it?
It was started 1959.1.11. It is one program of NHK and from 2011.6.11, its name was changed to "NHK Etere". This name's "E" has meaning of not only "Education" but also "Ecology". As this name, it has mainly programs about cultural and linguistic education, but broadcasts animes and dramas for children and high school and university sports. By the way, the most high audience rating was 29.4% on the baseball game program at Koshien in 1979. In ETV's history, there was an issue, "What time does this program finished?" Before the later 1990s, it finished at 24:00. But after that, it has broadcast later than 24:00.

History of NHK

This week, I introduce history of NHK. TV has very old history, television was invented at the beginning of 20th century.  Of course, history of it in Japan will have also.

・How did it be established?
1925, Tokyo broadcasting station, which is forerunner of NHK, began radio broadcasting for the first time in Japan.Next year, 3 broadcasting station, Tokyo, Osaka and Nagoya, were integrated into NHK, Japan Broadcasting Corporation.

・How did it change?
Though it was controlled by the government in wartime, after the war, its radio network was spread around the country affected by GHQ.1953, it started TV broadcasting and in '59 NHK education television and in 2000 digital Hi-vision broadcasting were began.But today, because of appearances of  digital pay TV, cable TV and  the Internet broadcasting, it must compete hardly against business broadcasting.

Outline of NHK

From this week, I'm writing about NHK on this blog.I watch NHK's news programs on TV as one of most reliable sources of information.First week, I told you the outline of NHK.

・What is it?
"NHK" is short of  "Nippon Hoso Kyokai" in Japanese.This organization is a corporation which has the aims of spreading various broadcasts and broadcasting better programs based on the broadcast law.

・What does it do?
NHK broadcasts publicly without dependence on the government and for no profit.It acts by a reception fee collected from viewers. There is a problem that some viewers will not pay the fee. I 'm going to write about this problem on next chance.

・How does it broadcast?
It does reports by means of seven waves, NHK synthetic television, NHK  education television(NHK Etele), NHK BS1, NHK BSpremium, NHK radio1, NHK radio2 and NHK-FM.
According to these waves, there is the reports for foreign countries.
