NHK on one day

This week is(or will be) the last week that I write about NHK on the blog. So I introduce time line of NHK broadcast on one weekday.

・Morning
04:30-08:00 Ohayo Nihonn
This is the most popular morning news program in NHK. There aren't only a news corner, but also sport, weather and special topic on the day. Special topic has motto, "quickly and deeply", which show what viewers want to know on the time. For example on 2/20, "Yutaka Ozaki as it really is."

08:00‐08:15 Renzoku TV Shousetu

This is one of the most popular and famous dramas in NHK. You can watch this everyday on weekdays. Because of shortage, 15 minutes, as time for drama, you can't only keeping on watching this. Now, for example, NHK has carnation. This story is that Itoko Ohara, a tomboy and strong-minded heroin, becomes a tailor and mother of three children. 

08:15-09:55 Asa-ichi

This talk and variety show gives us various information about daily life. By the way, main caster of this program is Yoshihiko Inohara, a member of Japanese idle group, V6. And he is most popular to madams.

This program has a catch phrase "a Makunouti Bennto of information".  Makunouti Bennto is lunch box that contains many kinds of dishes. This shows many kinds of information about household which we want to know.

19:30~19:56 Close up Gendai
This is a documentary having a theme "now" of Japan. This tells us social issues and trands becoming a center of attention with the people's documentary and explanation by specialists. I had thought that the problem took up in the problem is difficult for me. But recently I look up on this because Hatune Miku was introduced in the program.

NHK's license fee

I'll, this week, talk about the problem of license fee in NHK. You may  have known such as problems that NHK has and also become social issues. There are some negative points in NHK.

・How is it?
NHK collects TV and radio license fee from viewers and listeners who contract for NHK. It is needed in order to do high quality and impartial broadcasting without influences from particular groups or forces and dependency.  It is based on the law of broadcastimg Article 64. This law makes those who put equipment that receives broadcast contract for NHK. At the same time, they come to be in duty to pay license fee. For example, NHK's business income, 65.98 billion yen is composed of  TV or radio license fee in 96.5% in 2010.

・The Problem
In spite of these systems, there are some people who won't pay license fee. In 2010, it is 74% that the rate of those who contract NHK is. This,I think, results from no punishment for not paying fee. NHK has to urge them by civil suits. Moreover, it results in this to diversification of receivers, PC or one segment broadcasting, and NHK doesn't have just corresponds to this. By the way, in order to reject sense of unfairness, people who don't pay fee can watch TV or are collected for money despite not watching, NHK is considering to introduce scramble way. This way allow those who don't pay not to watch NHK. But there are opposite idea that scramble conflicts with principle of "public broadcast". So it is difficult that NHK adopts scramble way.
If you want to watch  NHK, let's pay the fee.

NHK foreign broadcasting

I'll give you account of NHK foreign broadcasting this week. NHK is not only broadcsting in the nation but also for foreign countries. When I traveled abroad, I watched it in the hotel. It will be needed for those who have a trip for foreign countries like me or live abroad.

・NHK World
It is a general term of NHK broadcasting for foreign countries. It has three channels, NHK World Radio Japan, NHK World TV and NHK World Premium. Radio Japan broadcasts for all over the world in 18 languages, Japanese, English, Chinese, etc. (even Arabic, Hindu and Urdu!) There are some programs which are also popular in Japan. For example, "NHK Nodojibann" and "outside broadcasting". World TV is a English channel for foreigners who live abroad. It has some main NHK's programs. In this channel, Japanese was used as a speech sound. But it changed to English little by little with an action of internationalization and in 2009, it has done completely. We can watch it in 120 countries and regions. Comparing this, World Premium is a Japanese channel for Japanese people who live abroad and go on trips there. This has not only news or information programs but also sports, entertainment, for children,  culture and so on. On this channel, "Ohayo-Nihonn", "News7", "News watch9" and etc. are broadcasted at the same time with domestic them.

・TV Japan
It is also a service for foreign countries, especially North America (America, the part of Canada and Puerto Rico). It was established by NHK Cosmomedia (America). There are some commercial programs, for example drama(Marumonookite...), movie(Otokohaturaiyo...) and animation Soreike Annpannman...), adding to NHK's them.

・History
1935,6/1   NHK started broadcasting on short wave for the western of North America and Hawaii an hour per a day.  This time, Japanese and English were used.

1937,1/1   They also began for Europe, eastern of NA, South America and some Southeast Asia countries an hour per a day. 

 April    French and German were started to use. Area and language expanded  gradually.

1944,11/5  Time became about 33 hours on a day. Languages were sorted out to 20 from 24, Japanese, English, Arabic, Italy and so on.

1945,8/15  It told the end of the war for Japanese residents.
         9/10  It was prohibited by G.H.Q.

1952,2/1    NHK restarted foreign broadcasting.

1996,January Services for abroad was named "NHK WORLD."

1998,10/1  Receiving ares of "NHK World TV" and "NHK World Premium" became almost over the world.

2000,2/4  "NHK World Radio" started streaming on the Internet.

 

2007,10/1 The broadcasting on Japanese for North America, Hawaii and Europe was abolished. And the number of languages of radio came to 18.

NHK TV Programs Ⅱ

Subsequently to last week, I'll introduce NHK TV Programs and this week, especially feature "E-tere", NHK Education TV.

・Outline
"E-tere" has most same programs in Japan, which is different from General TV. It often broadcasts entertainment programs about education, hobby, culture, and for welfare, disorders and children.

I want to introduce one of my favorite programs of "E-tere". It's "0655" and "2355".

Both programs are broadcasted on weekdays.
These two programs started since 2010/3/29 and are broadcasted on a beginning and an end of one day in order to adjust rhythm of the day with movies and music. There are many lovely characters and mascots which give the power to act on the day and  relieve our fatigue.

"Tanakuji" 
A fortune of the week and we can make it amulet by taking picture by our cellphone.

Tobby, flying fish and main mascot of "2355" mutters some words about the day. He sometimes gives a question, "tobinazo". And there are sub characters, "Dokary", is hermit crab, "Eby", is prawn and so on.

NHK TV Programs

I'll talk about NHK TV programs for two weeks and what I introduce this week is NHK General TV.

・News
News programs are called "NHK News" ,which is put on the air at the sated time for all over Japan. Mainly programs are below, morning, noon, evening and night news.
4:30~8:00       "Good Morning Japan"
12:00~12:20   "NHK News (Noon)"
19:00~19:30   "NEWS 7"
21:00~22:00   "News Watch 9"

・Talk and Variety Show
There are not only news programs but also various interesting and useful TV. About daily information program, "Tamesite Gattenn" tells us information about familiar topics. In this program, usual common knowledge is often denied and we can find new one. And "Nipponn-no-Kyoyo by Bakushou Monndai" concerned with the team of "kyoyo"-"culture in Japanese". The presenters, Ota and Tanaka always talk with the guest about him specialty. "Chakushinn-Onnrei Ketai-Ogiri" is a comedy program based on viewers' contribution. The form is that viewers answer question set by presenters. It is one of characters of this that TV is in combination with the Internet.

・Drama
The most two popular dramas of NHK are, I think, "Renzoku TV Shousetsu" and "Taiga Drama". The former is known as "Asadora" and a serial program since 1961. Because it is broadcasted on weekdays, despite a short story in one broadcasting, it becomes so long story in all. A woman is always a heroine and  described as a person who lives vigorously struggling against adverse circumstances. The later is a drama which have a team about the history of Japan. This drama also has long history and continues since 1963. "Taiga" comes from "a novel of Taiga" which means has long story with a big scale.

NHK Announcers

The topic on this time is NHK Announcer. Is it all right to go directly into the main question?

・Who are they?
This time, I will mainly take TV announcers, who appear especially in three major news programs. These programs are "Ohayou Nihonn", "News 7" and "News Watch 9". It is, I think, not too much to say that to be NHK announcer is equal to be the face of Japanese news TV.

Recently, there have been not only male announcers but female announcers who play active parts in News programs and are generally beautiful.

Asahi Inoue
She has started to appear "News Watch 9" since April in 2011. It is said that her looks and bodily shape are marvelous than any announcers in NHK. For example, she graduated from Ochanomizu women's college.

Tomoko Kogou
She is a graduate of Waseda university and in charge of a main anchor on Saturday and Sunday. It is for the first time in 12 years that woman becomes a main anchor in NHK. There is a rumor that her figure is so glamorous that the audience ratings went up 2~3%.

As I have said, NHK thinks announcers' figure is more important than their school background. I think that the background on the fact results from women announcers of commercial broadcasting becoming more popular. In fact, NHK women announcers have never placed among the top 10 of  women announcers ranking by the Oricon chart.

NHK Radio

This week, I intend to take up the topic about NHK Radio, but we will rarely listen to radio as the main media. Moreover, when it comes to "NHK", we hardly do but at shops and on taxis. But as I knew it, I realized that it is not only just news programs.

This character is "Rajiru". It appeared as an official mascot of NHK Radio from this year.
Its motto is "a, radio kiko".

・How is it?
On NHK Radio, there are three radio stations, NHK Radio1, NHK Radio2 and NHK FM. News programs are broadcasted by Radio1. It uses the same a source of TV's sound. In 1931 Radio2 branched off it and Radio2 became in charge of educational program which looked like NHK Education. Being difference from TV, Radio2 broadcasted about stock and foreign language news on Radio2. It is said that R1 is the program of all over Japan for the general public and R2 is city one for the intelligent. NHK FM mainly has music programs and radio drama. It, differently from commercial broadcasting, covered various genre of music. For example, classic, western music, jazz, etc… It has started experimentally since 1957 and in '69, begun for all over Japan. "Kouhaku utagassenn" and "NHK nodojimann", which are still popular programs of NHK TV, were born on NHK Radio. After TV broadcasting started in 1953, Radio gradually disappeared from the principal stage of the media. But before TV, it had played an important role as the main media.
